Let’s eat! A chip stand so good it’ll have you seeing stars

All Stars North chip stand excited to be open for a second season

The carwash and the chipstand go hand in hand for customers on Paris Street in the South End.

The All Stars North chip truck is in its second season at 1492 Paris Street, sharing a parking lot with Tommy’s Car Wash / U-Haul.

Co-owner Greg Ross said he is excited for his second season in the great outdoors.

“I’ve been in the food business my entire life, and after my restaurant burned down, this seemed like a natural transition,” Ross said.

Ross was the co-owner of Oscar’s Grill, a popular piano bar and restaurant on Durham Street until the multi-story unit was gutted by flames in May of 2023.

A year later, he was ready to try something new, investing in a food truck establishment.

“I’ve worked at golf courses and restaurants, but this is the first food truck for me,” he said. “It was always in the back of my mind and the timing seemed right in March 2024.”

While Ross certainly enjoyed building Oscar’s menu, don’t expect to find any of those menu items at All Stars North. To serve a more fast-paced style style of dining, the chip stand is all about poutine, burgers, fish and chips, hotdogs and corn dogs.

Ross said his all-time favourite is the All Stars burger with cheddar cheese, peameal bacon, fried onions, house-made honey muStarsd sauce and a big dill pickle.

He said repeat customers love the fish and chips, the burgers and poutine most.

This year, poutines at almost every chipstand are celebrating the pickle and All Stars North Chipstand is no different.

Ross said traditionalists like the classic poutine with curds and gravy while others step it up and indulge with the cajun pickle poutine.

All Stars North also has a menu of hot sandwiches including a gyro and a crispy chicken parmesan stacker and a few others.

The Grand Slam sandwich features shaved beef, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, a Carolina barbeque sauce and is served with fries.

Ross said the goal is to spice up the menu yearly with changes.

“Every year, we try to breathe new life into what is offered based on trends and customer feedback,” he said.

All Stars North also offers a kids menu with smaller portions of items like the hot dog, chicken fingers and pogos. It will be open until the end of October.

Ross said his off-seasons are spent running the kitchen at the Copper Cliff Curling Club under the same name.

The All Stars North chip stand is open seven days a week, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. You can find them on Facebook.
