Mayor Paul Lefebvre seems to like the latest federal Budget.

Lebevre, a former Liberal MP for Sudbury, issued a media release highlighting his thoughts on the budget released earlier this week.

Between provisions for critical minerals and infrastructure support, he expressed optimism regarding its contents.

The following is Lefebvre’s statement:

“The 2025 Federal Budget includes several measures that speak directly to the priorities of communities like Greater Sudbury.

“As the centre of Canada’s mining and mineral technology sector, our city is well positioned to benefit from new investments in critical minerals and supply chain infrastructure. Initiatives such as the Critical Minerals Sovereign Fund and the First and Last Mile Fund could help strengthen Northern Ontario’s resource economy and support the kind of innovation and skilled jobs that have long defined Greater Sudbury.

“The budget’s focus on housing and community infrastructure is especially important for municipalities. Cities are on the front lines of growth, and the ability to plan, build, and maintain housing and supporting infrastructure is essential to meeting the needs of residents. Programs such as the Build Communities Strong Fund and the Build Canada Homes initiative can provide municipalities with tools to deliver the housing, transit, water, and community infrastructure that allow our cities to grow sustainably.

“It’s also encouraging to see continued investment in trade and transportation corridors, including regional airports and key northern routes that connect our city to the rest of the country. These investments are critical to ensuring that Greater Sudbury remains a regional hub for people, goods, and services.

“Our City will continue to review the budget in detail and work with our federal and provincial partners to ensure these measures translate into tangible results for our community.”
