The Downtown Sudbury BIA has tapped Jeff MacIntyre, who had been serving as co-chair of its own board of directors, to take over as the body’s new executive director.

The Downtown Sudbury BIA has tapped the co-chair of its own board of directors to take over as the body’s new executive director.

Jeff MacIntyre has been serving as the interim director since the beginning June after Kyle Marcus, who had been serving as the managing director of the business improvement area, stepped down, the business improvement area said in a news release.

For his part, MacIntyre said serving as executive director provides him a more “hands on” opportunity put initiatives of the board of directors into practice.

"I'm thrilled to transition from my role as co-chair to a more hands-on position as executive director," he said. "This allows me to focus my efforts on implementing the initiatives and strategies we've been developing, including increasing the frequency and variety of downtown events.”

MacIntyre highlighted a recent skateboarding workshop and event with Ollie North Skateboard Association during UpHere, and the upcoming Memorial Park concert series with CMI and Jazz Sudbury as part of Jazz Fest, as examples of new initiatives the BIA has envisioned to bring more people downtown.

Kendra MacIsaac, co-chair of Downtown Sudbury, said MacIntyre was the right person for the job.

"While we conducted a province-wide search for candidates led by Calstone Recruitment, it became clear that Jeff was the perfect fit for the role," MacIsaac said. "His extensive experience working with BIAs across Ontario, coupled with his strong background in marketing and events, makes him the ideal candidate to drive our revitalization efforts."

To fill MacIntyre’s role on the board of directors, Erin Danyliw has been selected as the new co-chair. While Dario Zulich also joins the board as a member-at-large.

“With a strong board and leadership team in place, we're confident in our ability to revitalize the downtown core and create a vibrant and prosperous district that Sudbury deserves,” MacIntyre said in the news release.
