Rocco Renaud, 19, of Sudbury, died May 23 while working at an address in Lively. His death remains under investigation.

A workplace death that occurred in Sudbury 10 days ago is still under investigation by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD), said an email from the ministry.

Both the labour ministry and the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) were called to investigate the unexpected death of Rocco Renauld, 19, on May 23.

"The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development was notified of a workplace fatality that occurred in Lively, Ontario,” the email from the ministry reads. “It was reported that a worker was fatally injured while performing maintenance work. The ministry extends its sincere condolences to the family and colleagues of the worker. Following the notification, ministry inspectors attended the scene to investigate."

As the investigation is ongoing, no further details are available at this time, the ministry statement continued. It was similar to the information provided by GSPS.

It was around 8 p.m. on May 23 GSPS said it was contacted about the incident. Police said Renaud was located unconscious and with no vital signs at an address in Lively. He was transported to hospital by paramedic services where he was unfortunately pronounced deceased, said the police statement.

"Detectives from the Major Crime Section are working in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and the Coroner’s Office. As the cause of death is determined by the Coroner and the Coroner’s investigation is ongoing, we do not have a confirmed cause of death at this time," said the police statement.

An obituary notice said visitation for family members and friends was held at the Cooperative Funeral Home at 222 Lasalle Blvd. on May 30. The obituary said Renaud was the son of Bobby and Michèle (nee Duval) Renaud of Sudbury. The notice said young Renaud was a kind and outgoing individual who was active in sports and close to his family.
