Updated Nov. 26 at 3:54 p.m.: Highway 144 has reopened at the Watershed.

Original story

TIMMINS — Several area highways are closed as a winter storm moves through Timmins and area.

With up to 60 centimetres of snow expected in the next few days, police are urging drivers to avoid travel unless it's absolutely necessary.

Here are the closures as of noon today (Nov. 26):

  • Highway 144 is closed between Highway 560 (the Watershed) and Highway 101 in Timmins.
  • Highway 655 is closed in both directions between Kidd Creek Mine Road and Highway 11. OPP says it's due to severe weather and poor visibility.
  • Highway 11 is closed between Western Avenue in Cochrane and Riverside Drive in Kapuskasing due to severe weather and poor visibility.
  • Highway 631 is closed in both directions between Highway 17 in White River and Highway 11.

All school buses are cancelled from Hearst to Kirkland Lake.

The City of Timmins has declared a significant weather event, and is expecting delays in plowing some streets and sidewalks.
