THUNDER BAY – A Northern Ontario couple is the latest $2-million Thunder Bay 50/50 winner.
Graham and Helen Bromley of Hanmer, a suburb of Greater Sudbury, got the call on Friday morning from Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation CEO Glenn Craig.
“Helen, this isn’t a joke,” Craig said. “I’m calling to tell your husband that you have won $2,059,142.”
The pair could hardly believe their luck.
“We’ve been married 57 years and never thought I would win anything,” Graham said.
Helen had a quick response when asked what they might consider doing with their windfall.
“First off, help my kids out and my grand kids,” she said, adding her family was already gathering this weekend to celebrate several birthdays.
The celebration just got a little bigger.
“(We may be) having it catered in,” Helen said.
It’s the eight-largest jackpot in the history of the draw, which was launched in 2021. More than $76 million in prizes have been awarded.
Tickets for the October draw are on sale now, with $100,000 in early bird prizes up for grabs. There will be a special $25,000 bonus draw on Oct. 24.
Tickets are available at www.thunderbay5050.ca until 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 30. The draw takes place on Halloween at 11 a.m.
