Mike Parent, the president and CEO of Workplace Safety North, gave the opening address during the organization's annual Mining Health and Safety Conference in 2025.

Mining professionals will be asked to consider what safety looks like in the age of critical minerals during Workplace Safety North's annual conference next spring.

The 28th annual Mining Health and Safety Conference is scheduled to take place April 15-16, 2026, at the Holiday Inn in Sudbury.

Themed ‘Shaping Safety in the Critical Minerals Era,’ the conference will centre on advancing safety and sustainability in response to the rising demand for critical minerals.

The two-day event will feature guest speakers, panel discussions, technical sessions, and a tradeshow.

Past events have attracted between 200 and 300 mining professionals to share knowledge of sector-specific hazards, explore programs and innovations, and network with industry professionals.

Workplace Safety North has issued a call for papers for the conference focusing on the following topics: high-risk hazard identification, management, and prevention; emergency preparedness and response; safety culture, leadership, and workforce readiness; workplace well-being, mental health and psychosocial safety; research, technology, and digital innovation in mine safety; industry case studies and lessons learned; safety systems, governance, and regulations; and sustainability, environmental responsibility, and community partnerships.

Registration for the event is now open, and program details are expected to be updated in the coming months.
