Conroy Scott LLP, a trusted pillar in Sudbury’s legal community since 1958, is proud to share the next chapter of its long-standing commitment to Northern Ontario. Managing Partner, Adam Castonguay says, “Our firm has expanded its reach into Chelmsford through the acquisition of the legal practice of respected sole practitioner Gerard Guimond, who provided his clients dedicated legal services throughout his distinguished career.”

Effective November 3rd, Conroy Scott began providing legal services in Mr. Guimond’s existing office Errington Avenue in Chelmsford in Real Estate, Wills and Estates Law. The Chelmsford office is integrated with the firm’s offices in Sudbury and Toronto. Castonguay adds, “The expansion allows us to continue providing our trusted legal services to the community and to make those services more accessible to the people in the Chelmsford area. It reinforces our commitment to providing full-service, bilingual, and accessible legal services.”

Bilingual lawyers serving Chelmsford

In Northern Ontario, the Francophone community finds itself in a unique position as daily business defaults to English, but few lawyers able to fully serve clients in French. With the retirement of Gerry Guimond, Chelmsford’s only lawyer, Conroy Scott LLP stepped up to fill the gap and ensure legal services would still be available in the community and in both official languages. For many in the area’s large Francophone community, it’s much easier for them to discuss legal matters in French.

The Conroy Scott office will be staffed by two bilingual lawyers, Adam Castonguay and Stephanie McMahon, who will provide legal services in either English or French.

Adam Castonguay was born and raised in Chelmsford. He will bring a dynamic blend of experience and insight to Conroy Scott’s Chelmsford office. His practice spans real estate, wills and estates, corporate and commercial matters, construction law, and civil litigation. Castonguay says, “I can offer clients my expertise on a wide range of real estate transactions, from commercial and multi-family properties to income-producing investments. I also represent clients in complex disputes, including property disputes, estate matters, shareholder conflicts, and breaches of contract.”

Whether he’s guiding established companies, supporting budding entrepreneurs or helping families plan for the future, Adam Castonguay provides practical and forward-looking legal solutions.

Stephanie McMahon brings a valuable dual perspective to the Chelmsford office as both a lawyer and a qualified social worker. She is a strong and compassionate advocate for her clients, dedicated to her community, and she is proud to call Greater Sudbury home.

Stephanie McMahon and Adam Castonguay will primarily provide legal services related to Real Estate, Wills and Estates from the Chelmsford office, but clients will have access to the wide range of legal expertise available at the Conroy Scott firm. Serving clients in both English and French, is in keeping with Mr. Guimond’s commitment to provide bilingual services.

Carrying a legacy forward

Gerard Guimond is a highly-respected solicitor in Sudbury and has served the community with integrity and professionalism throughout his career. He is retiring from private legal practice to focus on his responsibilities as a Deputy Judge of the Small Claims Court.

As he transitions to this new chapter, Mr. Guimond will also join Conroy Scott LLP as counsel to the firm, but is no longer working on client matters. He extends his heartfelt gratitude to his clients for their trust, loyalty, and support throughout the years. “We are very pleased to have Mr. Guimond join us as counsel to the firm and we are honoured to carry forward Mr. Guimond’s legacy and to welcome his clients to Conroy Scott” says Adam Castonguay. “Our team is committed to providing the same level of high-quality legal services and personal attention that Mr. Guimond’s clients have come to rely on, while also offering our expertise in other practice areas.”

Clients with ongoing matters or inquiries are encouraged to contact Conroy Scott LLP directly.
