The City of Greater Sudbury is highlighting downtown Sudbury as summer winds down.

In a recent news release, Downtown Sudbury BIA and the city name-dropped restaurant and entertainment venues downtown, and invited residents to pay a visit downtown.

“Our downtown core is filled with some of the best spots in Greater Sudbury,” said Mayor Paul Lefebvre in the release. “It's a great season to take in all that Downtown Sudbury has to offer, and we invite you to discover the vibrant pulse of summer in the downtown – from the bustling market to the lively patios and sensational live performances.”

In terms of restaurants, the release suggests visiting cafés like Da Capo Café and Lounge, Books and Beans, and Kuppajo Espresso Bar, sitting down at Knowhere Public House, Wander Food and Wine or the Laughing Buddha, and sampling the South Asian, Asian and Mexican dishes at places like Taj Bistro, Pho Noodle House, and Sapporo Ichibang, or Mexican dishes at Rosy's Corner and La Casa Mexicana.

For shopping, Downtown Sudbury and the city suggest finding something to read at Bay Used Books or La Bibliothèque Panache, finding something to wear at Studio 35 Fashions or Reg Wilkinson Menswear, and visiting the Sudbury Market on Saturday mornings for local produce and hand-crafted items.

Besides festivals like Up Here (ever done a mural walk through downtown?) and performances by YES Theatre at Sudbury Theatre Centre or the Refettorio, Place des Arts and Sudbury Indie Cinema have events and shows as well. Live music can be found at the Townehouse Tavern, the Alibi Room and the Night Owl weekly, and Peddler’s Pub offers trivia, painting and axe throwing.

“Municipal investments in programs like Welcoming Streets have allowed us to shift our focus back toward attracting businesses and creating a more vibrant downtown through events and activities,” said Sudbury Business Improvement Area (BIA) co-chair Kendra MacIsaac. “The Win This Space competition also generated a lot of buzz and interest in downtown retail opportunities with some amazing entrants. It's truly an exciting time for us to be able to concentrate on growing the downtown again.”
