École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) students took part in the school’s Christmas drive Dec. 3, raising funds for families in need.
“This annual initiative led by Ms. Carol Bradley-Whissell, teacher at ÉSC Champlain, enabled students to showcase their outstanding community involvement and their desire to support local families in need during the holiday season,” said a press release.
Students walked the neighbourhoods of Chelmsford and Azilda to sing holiday classics, spread Christmas cheer and collect donations. In less than three hours, Champlain students raised more than $3,770 in donations.
The proceeds will partly assist in the preparation of Christmas baskets for families in need within the school community as well as families being supported by YWCA Sudbury.
The success of the Christmas drive also allowed Champlain’s dance team to present a $1,000 donation during CTV’s Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon. ÉSC Champlain intends to make an additional donation to the Chelmsford food bank.
“École secondaire catholique Champlain’s Christmas drive is important for our students as it gives them another opportunity to show their commitment towards the community,” said Angèle Carr, Principal at École secondaire catholique Champlain.
“While spreading joy and embodying our Catholic values, they reach out to help local families in need during Christmas. We would like to thank the Chelmsford and Azilda communities for their remarkable generosity and everyone who contributed to the success of our event.”
