KIRKLAND LAKE - A call to police about a person with bloody hair and clothing at a gas station led to the seizure of drugs and a handgun.
On Monday, Sept. 6, a concerned citizen called Kirkland Lake OPP about the person at a gas station on Highway 11 in Grenfell Township.
Police say they talked to everyone involved, and a passenger was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Hamilton Police Service.
In a search of the person and vehicle, suspected cocaine and fentanyl with a street value of over $9,000 were seized, as well as a handgun, drug paraphernalia, cell phone and $3,900 in cash.
A 24-year-old man from Ajax is charged with:
- Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
The accused was held in police custody and appears in court in Kirkland Lake on Nov. 6.
The charges haven't been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
