The Sudbury Wolves carried a three-game losing streak and an overall record of 4-11-1into Barrie to face off against Central Division rivals, the Barrie Colts on Thursday night.
Karsen Chartier got the start in goal on the road for the Sudbury Wolves while Ben Hrebik got the start for the hometown Barrie Colts.
Just under five and a half minutes into the game, the Sudbury Wolves took a 1-0 lead when Jan Chovan received a pass right in front of the Colts’ goaltender from Chase Coughlan, and scored his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Chase Coughlan and Hudson Martin.
At the 10:03 mark of the first period, Bode Stewart of the Colts scored his first goal of the season by taking advantage of a Wolves giveaway, assisted by Calvin Crombie and Brad Gardiner to tie the game 1-1 after the first period.
The Wolves regained the lead 3:25 into the second, when Liam Ladds scored his second goal of the season from just inside the blue line on a delayed penalty call, assisted by Hudson Martin and Jan Chovan, making the score 2-1 for Sudbury.
Less than two minutes later, Barrie tied the game once again, with Joe Salandra scoring his third goal of the season after finding himself all alone in front of the Wolves net, with the assists going to Emil Hemming and Cole Beaudoin, making the score 2-2.
Nicholas Desidero for the Colts scored his third goal of the season at the 11:44 mark of the middle frame with a tip in off of a point shot, assisted by Kashawn Aitcheson and William Schneid, giving Barrie a 3-2 lead.
With 1:27 to go in the second period, and with Wolves’ forward Chase Coughlan serving a two-minute minor for high sticking, Kashawn Aitcheson scored his 12th goal of the season with Chartier screened by a Barrie defenseman to make it 4-2 for the Colts. Assists went to Cole Beaudoin and Emil Hemming.
Brad Gardiner fired off a one-timer on Chartier and scored his 11th goal of the season while the Colts were on the power play, with Artem Gonchar serving a two-minute minor penalty for high sticking, with the assists going to Cole Beaudoin and Kashawn Aitcheson, giving the Barrie Colts a three-goal lead by a score of 5-2.
Gardiner would score once again, his second goal of the game, with a bad-angle shot from the right corner of the ice, with just under three minutes left to play, assisted by Cole Beaudoin and Emil Hemming, capping off a 6-2 victory for the Barrie Colts over the Sudbury Wolves.
The Sudbury Wolves return home for a rematch against the Barrie Colts on tonight at Sudbury Arena with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
