Mining company Agnico Eagle has donated $190,000 to the United Way Centraide North East Ontario/Nord-est de l’Ontario.
“As United Way works toward closing a remaining funding gap across the region, Agnico Eagle stepped forward with a $190,000 contribution to support local programs and services,” United Way said in a news release. “This investment helps ensure that critical community programs can continue to meet growing needs across Northeast Ontario.”
Andre Leite, Agnico Eagle vice-president for Ontario, said the company is pleased to support United Way’s work.
“Our employees live, raise families, and build their lives in Northeast Ontario, and that makes supporting our communities a shared responsibility,” Leite said in a news release. “United Way plays a critical role in ensuring people can access essential services close to home. We are proud to support this work because strong communities directly support the well-being of our workforce and the region we call home.”
United Way said in a news release it continues to receive strong support from individuals, workplaces, unions, businesses and community partners “who understand that no single organization can meet community needs alone.”
“A gift of this magnitude sends a powerful message about the importance of community investment,” said Cory Roslyn, United Way Centraide executive director, in a news release. “At the same time, it is the combined impact of all our supporters — large and small — that makes this work possible.”
